Jim and Patt Thompson Scholarship Awarded!

Congratulations again to Shannon Dixon! We are very pleased that in recognition of her continued success this past year, she has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship.

The Jim & Patt Thompson Scholarship Award has been established through the hard work of our club members, the generosity of our donors, and the many Buckeye fans and alumni.

Jim Thompson graduated from Ohio State in 1960 (BS Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering) and was a founding member and past vice president of the Space Coast Florida Alumni Club. His wife Patt continues to Pay it Forward as a dedicated leader of the club in his memory. “Jim loved being a Buckeye! He worked very hard for and valued his degree. He wanted others to know that it enabled him to provide for his family over the years.”

Thank you so much for the scholarship! I greatly appreciate the funds and everything you have done to support me throughout my college career! This year I worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the fundamentals of engineering course, and worked as a recruitment aide for the department of food, agricultural, and biological engineering. I also successfully wrote and defended my undergraduate research thesis on coral health and biology. This summer I will be working as a peer leader for OSU where I will have a cohort of ~300 newly admitted students and I will be helping them navigate the transition from high school to college. I am also working on another research project under Dr. Andrea Grottoli! This upcoming fall, I will be applying to graduate school with the intention of receiving my Ph.D. in Marine Science with a focus on research in coral resilience.
